Arctic silver was a very good paste at it's time when it was released in 2004, however, technology moves on and nowadays there are better choices. The Arctic MX-4 is a very good thermal paste and maintains low temperatures throughout, it can also last up to 8 years so no need to ever change it unless you plan on keeping the same CPU for 8 years Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound does this with three unique shapes and sizes of pure silver particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer. It's optimized for use between modern high-power CPUs and high-performance heatsinks or water-cooling solutions As the title suggests, Im wondering if its safe to use Arctic Silver 5 on a laptop CPU. I have used Arctic Silver products since about 2002. I have been through the interations from Arctic Silver (no number), 2, 3, 5 over the years. If you want your processor to run at the lowest possible temperatures (given Heatsink and air circulation limitations), Arctic Silver is the best by far My original thinking was that Arctic Silver is non-organic, so there shouldn't be a reason that it can spoil over time, especially if not exposed to air or elements. If the silver particulates settle then if I shake vigorously, it bears reason that it should still work like normal as long as the liquid compound is still good

With that exception, every other heatsink clamping device I have encountered would be tight enough to use AS5. Arctic Silver 5 has no adhesive qualities and is considered grease. It will never dry or set.. Personally, I would still use AS5 as long as the clamping mechanism is a nice fit. Jan 1, 2007 #12 G. game1 1) you may not be applying the arctic silver properly. 2) the original arctic silver isn't as good as arctic silver 3. 3) all versions of arctic silver are overrated
Arctic Silver's Alumina is a classic among thermal adhesive pastes, but heed the above warning: once applied your heat sink won't come off again. But a similar non-adhesive version is also. However, I was wondering if anyone has experience using arctic silver instead of the official thermal pads. My guesstimation is that arctic silver applied properly would likely out-perform the pre-made pads however the heat sink may rely upon the spacing defined by the pads So I did my delid the other day, not having any CoolLabs paste I opted to go for some Arctc Silver 5 paste until I can get some CLU or CLP.Doing research on the AS5 paste, it appears that I need to do a burn in on the paste, while doing a Intel Burn test, my temps peaked out at 78-78-77-75, mid w.. Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Compound is a reliable choice for preventing the CPU in your computer from overheating. The enhanced ceramic particles in this high-density thermal compound help conduct and draw heat away from the CPU, improving PC performance and protecting delicate components Arctic Ceramique uses aluminum oxide, boron nitride, and zinc oxide, whereas Arctic Silver 5 uses, ehr, silver. The Ceramique tube is a dollar cheaper, but only comes with 2.5g as opposed to 3.5g
That's a first...and, honestly, I can't say whether I'd recommend it, or recommend avoiding that suggestion. I've been custom-building computers for over 25 years, and Arctic Silver had been one of the best thermal pastes I've used...but, it's designed for attaching to computer CPUs, not RC motors If what you have is Arctic Silver 5, go ahead and use it. But do not buy any more, it is more expensive and lower performing than newer TIMs (pastes, pads, etc) out there. thescreensavers Diamond Member. Aug 3, 2005 9,930 2 81. Features: Made With 99.9% Pure Silver: Arctic Silver 5 uses three unique shapes and sizes of pure silver particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer Also beware of using too much paste. Artic Silver's name is exactly the reason why. It inculdes a tiny amount of silver (micronized silver) to help aid in heat transfer. While this works exceptionally well for it's heat transfer properties, unlike most thermal pastes it can also conduct electricity
We do not recommend using Arctic Silver 5 on the older slot type Intel Xeon processors with large multiple square inch CPU to heatsink interfaces. The huge contact area and large gaps between the processor and the heatsink require a thermal pad or thick mesh-reinforced paste. Arctic Silver 5 can be used on socke That out the way, the most likely reason is that you need to give Arctic Silver 5 some time to cure. I'd have it run prime95 for a little bit and set the stress test on 8-12 threads for around 80-ish percent load. Run that for an hour or so.
